UOA is a rare congenital anomaly seen in females, with an incidence of approximately 1 in 11,000 cases.

In this condition, the ovary and fallopian tube on one side fail to develop, resulting in their complete absence. Because there are usually no specific symptoms, most cases are diagnosed incidentally during investigations or surgery.

Commonly, UOA is discovered on ultrasound (USG) or during diagnostic laparoscopy. A Recent Case

We recently encountered a case of Unilateral Ovarian Absence, diagnosed during diagnostic laparoscopy. The patient had presented with an HSG report showing unilateral tubal block. However, laparoscopy revealed complete absence of the ovary and fallopian tube on one side.

This interesting case was kindly referred to us by Dr. Sujata Patil Madam (Sangli).
