Laparoscopy has completely transformed the management of ectopic pregnancy, especially in cases of ruptured ectopic pregnancy. Today, it truly is a “quick in and quick out” procedure when performed by an experienced team.
In the past, laparoscopy was considered contraindicated in ruptured ectopic pregnancy. This was mainly due to the time required to arrange laparoscopic equipment and limited surgical expertise, making open surgery appear faster and safer.
However, times have changed. Laparoscopy is now widely available, and the procedure can be completed rapidly and efficiently. Most importantly, the laparoscopic approach significantly reduces blood loss, offers better visualization, and allows precise control of bleeding.
In this video, note how quickly the intraperitoneal blood collection—from the pelvis up to the liver—can be evacuated. The ruptured tubal site is easily identified, and bleeding is promptly controlled using electrocautery.
This case was referred to us by Dr. Nikhil Desai Sir (Nandre).
