Monsoon-related viral infections are common in June. Many women notice delayed periods after episodes of fever or illness and worry about underlying problems.

How Illness Affects the Menstrual Cycle

Fever and systemic infections temporarily suppress ovulation by disrupting hormonal signaling from the brain to the ovaries. As a result, periods may be delayed or missed for one cycle.

When It Is Usually Harmless

A single delayed cycle following illness is usually not a cause for concern and often resolves on its own.

When to Investigate Further

Medical evaluation is advised if:

  • Periods remain irregular for multiple cycles

  • Heavy bleeding occurs after delay

  • Symptoms of anemia develop

  • Pregnancy has been ruled out

Identifying hormonal imbalance or nutritional deficiency early prevents long-term issues.
